Wine Grape Varieties

Alvarinho

Alvarinho is a white grape variety originating in Portugal.

The main growing regions for Alvarinho are Portugal and Spain. It is one of the principal white grape varieties used in the production of Vinho Verde, a wine from northern Portugal. Alvarinho is particularly cultivated in the subregion of "Monção e Melgaço" within DOC Vinho Verde. This subregion is located near the border with Spain and lies adjacent to DO Rías Baixas, the primary production area for this grape in Spain.
