Wine Grape Varieties

Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc is a black grape variety originating in France. It is the most widely cultivated grape variety in the Loire Valley and is also grown in Bordeaux and the South West of France. In the Loire, it is often used to make wines on its own, whereas in Bordeaux and the South West, it is blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. On the Right Bank of the Dordogne River, particularly in the Libournais region, it is the second most important variety after Merlot.
