Wine Grape Varieties

Carignan Noir

Carignan Noir is a black grape variety originating in France. It has also been said to originate in Spain, having been introduced to France in the 12th century, but current data from the VIVC identifies it as a French variety. In France, it is primarily cultivated in the southern regions. In the 1970s, its cultivation area exceeded 200,000 hectares, but it has since declined to less than 30,000 hectares.
