The AOC Bourgueil is a wine-producing area located north of Chinon, on the opposite bank of the Loire River. It is protected from northern winds by the Forêt de Gâtine, which lies to the north.
The production area of Bourgueil consists of seven communes, but Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, located in the northwest, has been granted its own AOC.
