Montagne-Saint-Emilion is located in the Libournais region, just north of Saint-Emilion across the Barbanne stream. The production area corresponds to the commune of Montagne, which was formed through the merger of three former communes: Montagne, Parsac, and Saint-Georges.
The area formerly known as Saint-Georges also has its own distinct AOC: Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion.
