Crémant d'Alsace is an AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) designation for sparkling wines produced in the same region as AOC Alsace. In France, it is the second most-produced sparkling wine after Champagne.
Aromatic grape varieties such as Gewürztraminer and Muscat varieties, which are permitted under AOC Alsace, cannot be used for Crémant d'Alsace. However, Chardonnay, which is not authorized under AOC Alsace, is allowed for its production.
