Although the Médoc AOC technically covers the entire Médoc region, wines produced in the southern part of the area are generally sold under the AOC Haut-Médoc or one of the six individual communal AOCs. As a result, most wines labeled under the Médoc AOC come from the northern part of the region, often referred to as Bas-Médoc.
